Transistor-enabled reciprocity breaking in a mechanical lattice yielding giant isolation and unidirectional propagation

This paper presents non-reciprocal information transfer between two mass-spring chains enabled using an electromechanical cell incorporating a metal–oxide–semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). Mechanical propagating through input chain is converted into electrical signal, and vice versa for output chain, permanent magnet conducting coil in each chain. The coils are coupled electrically via MOSFET, leading to giant isolation unidirectional signal transfer. We present theory, numerical simulations, experimental demonstration of the concept. proposed system can be implemented as “sonocoupler”, acoustic analog optocoupler, which isolate one mechanical from another while transmitting manner.
